The Ponds of Beaumont, Crosagny, its mill...and its pathway

The ponds of Baumont and Crosagny are situated halfway between Aix-les-Bains and Annecy (France). They are astride two departments : Savoie and Haute-Savoie, concerned municipalities are Albens, St-Félix and Bloye.
These two ponds have a surface of 23 ha, knowing that which of Baumont has a surface two times bigger than Crosagny, and is largely occupied by the vegetation. Crosagny with its 8 ha presents a surface in water of 4,3 ha.
All these waters gives birth downstream to Deysse, tributary of Sierroz river which throws itself into the Lake Bourget (the deepest and largest lake located entirely in France).

The site is a wet zone compound of ponds and of swamps of European interest for their natural heritage (Natura 2000 ; it’s a network of nature protection areas in the EU). A monitoring center allows to admire the beauty of places and to discover the birds which live or spend winter on the pond of Crosagny. A mill built in the XVIIth century reminds the intense social and economic activity of the site during several centuries and until the beginning of 1960s.

The pond of Beaumont today...

A peculiarity of the evolution in rural areas : in a time when nobody spoke of tourism, the circuit around both ponds was strongly seen frequently by fishermen, hunters, walkers, tourists... The access was free, the pathways opened. Since we pride ourself on rehabilitating the site, on developing the tourism, the access on a big portion of the circuit is closed!!!!!!!

... The presence of a barbed wire which thrones in its middle...
